Booking it, and what happens on the day

Fee

£37, paid to the DVSA when you book. A retake is another £37. We do not book tests and take no part of this.

What to bring

Your provisional LGV entitlement and a valid car licence. Arrive 15 minutes early. Nothing else may be taken into the test room.

On the day

115 minutes of multiple choice, an optional 3 minute break, then the hazard perception clips. You must pass both in the same sitting.

What happens next

Your pass certificate lasts 2 years. Then Module 2 case studies, then the practical driving test.

LGV test questions

Is this the same as the Driver CPC?

The multiple choice and hazard perception you sit here are Module 1. The Driver CPC also has Module 2 case studies and Module 4 practical demonstration, which are separate tests.

Do I need a car licence first?

Yes. You need a full car licence and provisional LGV entitlement on your licence before you can book.

Why are there two pass rates for LGV theory?

Because it is two separate tests, booked and paid for separately: multiple choice, and hazard perception. Most people find the multiple choice the harder of the two, which is the opposite of what they expect.

How long does my theory pass last?

Two years, the same as every other category.
