Free DVSA theory test practice

50 questions, the same format and the same 57 minute limit as the real test. No sign-up, no card, no email needed.

Which test are you taking?
Choose your language. It is saved, and you can change it mid-test.

What you are about to sit

The multiple choice half of the real theory test, in the real format. It marks itself the moment you submit and shows you which topics cost you the marks.

Same structure

50 questions drawn across all 14 DVSA topic categories, four answers each.

Same clock

57 minutes, counting down, with flag for review and free navigation between questions.

Both languages at once

The English wording you will meet on test day, with your language beneath it.

A real breakdown

Not just a score: accuracy per topic, weakest first, and every mistake explained.

Questions come from the DVSA licensed revision bank. Free practice draws on the free question sets; paid access opens the full bank for your category.

These figures are for the car test, category B. Motorcycle, LGV, PCV and ADI each have their own question count, timing and pass marks: see every category.

What this free test does not cover

Hazard perception is the other half of the real test, scored separately, and you have to pass both in the same sitting. It is also the half that catches most people out, because it is a timing skill rather than a knowledge one.

  • 14 clips, 15 scoreable hazards, 44 out of 75 to pass
  • One viewing each, with no pause and no rewind
  • Clicking too early scores nothing at all
  • Clicking in a pattern voids the whole section

Before you start

Do I need to sign up?

No. The test runs in your browser, marks itself and shows your breakdown without an account.

Is this the same as the real test?

The format, the length, the timing and the pass mark are the same, and the questions come from the DVSA licensed revision bank. The free practice draws on the free question sets rather than the full bank for your category.

Can I change language during the test?

Yes. Your choice is saved before you start and you can change it in the test itself. Your answers and the clock carry on as they were.

What score should I be aiming for?

The pass mark is 43 out of 50, but do not book on 43. Book when you are consistently clearing 90% across several full mocks. Only 44.9% of car theory tests are passed nationally, and underpreparing is why.

What happens if I close the tab?

Your progress is kept, so you can carry on where you left off.

Everything the free test leaves out

The full DVSA question bank for your category, every hazard perception clip with replay mode, unlimited mocks and all 7 languages. One payment from £4.49, no subscription.
